It was the first beauty subscription service. It also was my first (and still is my favorite). It was my gateway subscription. It costs $10 per month, or $110 per year (I believe they add tax for new subscriptions in New York) . There is a lot of information about this subscription, so I won’t repeat that here. Instead I offer you my take on it. As I already mentioned, it is my favorite subscription. First of all, they are the most customized subscription. They ask subscribers to fill beauty profile, and try to tailor your box to your needs and preferences. Admittedly they don’t always succeed, but I feel that they do a better job  than other subscription services (looking at you Ipsy and Beauty Box 5). In a last few months Birchbox became even more customized, by allowing the subscribers select one of the samples in their box or the entire box. There is no obligation to do so, if you don’t make a selection, you will receive the box with samples suited to you profile. Another great feature of Birchbox is their point system. Birchbox allows its subscribers to earn points by reviewing received samples, shopping in there store and referring friends. You get 10 points for each review, 1 point for each dollar spent in the store and 50 points for each friend who signed up. Once you reach 100 points they get converted into $10 credit that you can you can used on you next order. Last but not least Birchbox has great customer service. Of course there are some downsides. People often complain that Birchbox samples tend to be pretty small. There are some logistics hiccups every so often.  Well, nothing  is perfect, and I feel that it’s unreasonable to expect perfection from $10 beauty box. Despite their shortcomings, Birchbox is still my favorite subscription. At this point I wish they would expanded there inventory, so they could replace Ulta and Sephora in my life.

If you would like to sign up, please feel free to use my referral link. Every so often Birchbox releases codes that allow new subscribers to get additional points or discounts just for signing up. Here is the list of what currently works (to the best of my knowledge):

  • BBJETBLUE10 – 100 points
  • SUBSCRIBENOW50 – 50 points
  • 5BOXGIFT – gives you $5 off your first box

I am not sure when they expires (but I’m assuming they do at some point), so if you tried it and it’s not working please leave a comment below and I’ll remove them from the list.

Ebates currently offers $2.50 rebate on new subscriptions (and 2.5% on Birchbox store purchases). If you don’t have Ebates account and would like to sign up feel free to use my Ebates referral link.
