Ipsy August 2014 – Manna Kadar Sheer Glo

This is my first month with Ipsy, and given that a lot of people were unhappy with them recently I was kind of worried.  However, since I just got off their wait list (there probably will be separate rant-post about that), I decided to keep an open mind and hope for the best. In my eyes “the best” would look like some lip/eye color and, maybe, a nail polish. Here is what I got:

  • Costal Scents Shadow Pallet sample
  • Jersey Shore Sun Mongongo Lip Conditioner
  • Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk
  • Manna Kadar Cosmetics Sheer Glo
  • Urban Decay 24/7 Velvet Glide-On Eye Pencil in Plushie (purple)

Originally, the only item I really didn’t  care for was Klorane Dry Shampoo. Dry shampoo doesn’t do anything for my hair. Moreover, I got the same exact sample for Birchbox a few months ago. However, the longer I look at this stuff the more disappointed I feel. Initially I was exited for Costal Scents Shadow, but it turned to have very little pigment. I had hard time swatching them on my arm, and trust me, I tried my best. Brown is the only color that shows up ok. White and nude look almoust identical, but they are shimmery, so at least you can see that. Pink is matte, so it is the least visible one. Maybe I’m just spoiled by Lorac Pro pallet, most of those colors are super pigmented. Jersey Shore Lip Conditioner seems to be all natural and organic version of chapstick with slightly annoying scent. I’ll probably save it for colder months. Sheer Glo is essentially a pinkish shimmery highlighter. My problem with it is that I wouldn’t apply anything pink where I normally apply highlighter. Maybe I could use it as a blush? I’ll give a shot, but I’m not feeling optimistic. Urban Decay product (eye pencil or mascara) was a star product of this month, with one of them being sent out in every Ipsy bag. And apparently, I lucked out with pencil. From what I read so far, most subscribers got mascara, and many of them weren’t too happy about out. However, the pencil is purple and I have hard time imagining myself wearing it. It’s kind of sad that my favorite item this month was a bag. I didn’t like the idea of orange polka dot when I first saw it online. However, the bag itself d turned out be pretty cute barrel shaped affair. It’s made of plastic and seems water-proof (or at least water resistant), which is great for packing skin care stuff when travelling.

Bottom line: First bag was a bit of a disappointment. However, I’ll give Ipsy 2-3 more months to impress me, since there are no other make up oriented subscriptions within my price range.
